This paper is based on empirical research that was commissioned by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on the conditions and trends of "land grabbing" in 17 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean (see Appendix for a complete list of studies, hoarders as well as document corresponding synthesis; FAO, 2011). The 17 studies were completed in mid 2011. The common analytical framework of studies is broad, yet focused. On one side is large because it analyzes hoarders the general processes of rural land and the concentration of capital in the context of neoliberal globalization. On the other hand, is targeted because it analyzes the phenomenon of "land grabbing" hoarders strictly based on three specific hoarders dimensions, namely: i) the powerful land acquisitions scale; ii) the involvement of foreign governments in these land deals; and iii) the negative impact of these recent investments in land for food security of the recipient country. It is largely due to this type of analytical framework that most studies could unravel and collect large amount of empirical material related to the dynamics of land in the region; However, since the focus of his analysis and conclusions are based on the definition and the narrow dimension of land grabbing, the conclusion was that "land grabbing" hoarders is given only two countries in the region: Argentina and Brazil .
