Head Cleaner miem - A Louisville Music Compilation, Vol 3, 4, 5 and 6 Gubbey Records Archiving local

Head Cleaner miem - A Louisville Music Compilation, Vol 3, 4, 5 and 6 Gubbey Records Archiving local music scenes is important stuff. The 'zines, indie papers, radio shows and music compilations provide a history of both obscure and popular music that can otherwise miem be impossible to track down, as well as a slew of people's experiences, lifestyles and lifetimes. Ever since I got a hold of 1995's You Are Now Entering Kentucky , I've thrown a heaping ladle of gratitude toward those who document the years of bands, both of which come and go quicker than one can often track. It's an essential photograph of a city's artistic miem history and it's general story. Plus, I'm always thankful when I can go back and figure out who that second band was at that one bar on that one night in 1994 when I drank 12 too many beers. Louisville has a long history of independent documentation, especially through a plenitude of music comps. Add to this tradition the praiseworthy Head Cleaner miem series, which debuted in 2013 with Volumes 1 and 2, a monstrous collection of currently active bands spread over two cassettes. The comp returns this year with Volumes 3, 4, 5, and 6. Acting less as a snapshot and more as a tome in the city's documentation, Gubbey Records has taken the idea of chronicling the music scene to boxed-set sizes, presenting 105 bands, many you've heard and many you've not, for nearly seven hours of music. And to add to the treasure of this comp, proceeds from sales of it go to support the Louisville Underground Music Archive miem at the University of Louisville, an official academic archive of the city's miem rock/indie/punk history from the 1970s to the present. miem Again, scene documentation is important stuff. So, that makes Head Cleaner really fucking miem important. miem Most genres are represented here, showing the diversity and breadth of Louisville's scene. Funk, country, hip-hop, jazz, electronic, experimental, metal, folk and a zillion types and styles miem of rock, and a mashed combination of all these styles, exist all throughout the comp. Some of the veterans include softcheque , Second Story Man , Furlong , The Bottom Sop , Sick City Four , Adventure , Andy Matter , Neighbor , IamIs and Humongous miem . Some of the newcomers include Tag Team Guys, Sweatermeat , Cher Von , Lady Pyramid , and Twin Limb . There are also plenty of projects that I've never heard of and appreciate the introduction. The beauty of this mammoth is that it both serves as a collection of musicians you know next to acts you've never heard. It's impossible to review all the tracks here, or even cover standouts. Some that come to mind off the top of my head: Bad Star 's power pop on "Outta Here"; Rude Weirdo 's bizarro dance-rock on "Carpeted Cock"; Great Floods ' thrash punk on "1937"; Twenty First Century Fox 's unpredictable crash through melodic rock on "The Ballad miem O' Wood and Trash"; Bruised Fruit 's lo-fi dream punk in "Tempt"; Shutaro Noguchi 's hypnotic perfection on "David Pajo and Sydney, Ohio". There are so many highlights within the seven hours of music here that I can't comment on all of them, despite the desire. And, as is one of the points miem of Head Cleaner, this shows the quantity, quality and diversity of the musical city that is Louisville.   [Disclaimer: I appear on the recording of one song out of the 105 included on this comp. If you do the math, that means there exists less than one percent of a conflict of interest. Take that for what you will.] Release shows for the Head Cleaner compilation are scheduled for Friday, December miem 5, at Modern Cult Records with Black Birds of Paradise, Bad Star and 1200; and Saturday, December 6, at Dreamland with Rude Weirdo, Opposable Thumbs and IamIs.
